Who are we?
The Abilene High PTA is a qualified non-profit association organized exclusively for the charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, providing valuable support to Abilene High School’s students, faculty/staff, and parents. This is accomplished through the generous efforts of parent volunteers and community business partnerships, and in large part by funding made available through its annual membership drive and donation drive direct mailing campaign as well as T-shirt sales. All contributions of any amount made by donors in excess of the $5 membership dues are 100% tax deductible under section 170(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code. |

Get Involved!
We are “Texas proud” when it comes to supporting public education. No doubt students are supported through their educational journey from early childhood to college. With our rich heritage and century of putting children first, policymakers, corporations, foundations, and individuals who want to make a difference support our worthy cause. So often we hear that PTA is all about parents and teachers--and they are important, but we are about supporting the children who are students in our school. Making every child’s potential a reality is our vision, and the goal of a network of volunteers, staff, and school officials working together.
PTA needs your help. While our success the past 100 years speaks for itself, as shown through the past academic successes of AHS graduates, the world only becomes more complex each passing year, and we will face new, different, and exciting challenges on the journey ahead. By joining our efforts, you will ensure every child will experience entering into a big wide-open world beyond their public school years that will not only better educate them, but will prepare them for the social, economic, and personal challenges that will make them a better person, and will mold them into a future educated citizen of our country like no other.
So please join our efforts today because all of us PTA parent volunteers are working together for all students in high school besides our own. The mission of child advocacy and informed, involved parenting was the reason Texas PTA was formed 100 years ago, in 1909, and the dedication and commitment of our members is what brought us here today.
Volunteer opportunities abound by Abilene High PTA offering support to the AHS Student Council for their Homecoming Dance, serving 1000 students at the beginning of the school year, from 8:00 to 11:30 p.m., and held at either the Abilene Civic Center or at one of the Fair Grounds Buildings, working in the concession stand selling drinks, chaperoning, and also monitoring a property check-in/check-out area. Our annual food drive community service project helps provide assistance to the Food Bank of West Texas for families in need during the holidays. By invitation only, our PTA has been asked again to participate in this event during the Lacks Trim-A-Tree for Charity annual food drive contest. Customers vote on our Abilene High Christmas tree by delivering donated canned food to leave underneath to help us win cash prizes for student scholarships. Parent volunteers can help once again at the end of the school year, too, by helping another group Parents Who Care serving approximately 1000 graduating students and their guests from both high schools at the Abilene Civic Center by working either an all-night-long shift, or working an early shift from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., or working on a late shift from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. during the Project Graduation Party. This provides support for a supervised alcohol-free & drug-free event, celebrating the culmination of a student’s public high school educational experience. For more opportunities on campus, call the school secretary/VIPS Coordinator (Volunteer In Public Schools), 677-1731, ext. 2250. |
