Sally and the Purple Socks

Summary

 

Sally the Duck is so excited about the arrival of her new purple socks.  She wears her socks to do everything and soon her socks are full of surprises that lead to many creative uses.

Activity

Gather various socks of all colors and sizes.  Use the socks to sort by color, to order from largest to smallest, to graph, to make pairs or use for one to one correspondence.

Activity

Mixing colors-go to Nettrekker-keyword ‘color mixing’, go to tooter4kids:light and color, show how colors mix to make other colors.

Go to www.kinderart.com –tasty color mixing.  Students can mix colors to make others colors, then they eat the results.

Activity

Give each student a large cut out of a sock.  Have each student use paint, markers, crayons, watercolors, etc. to decorate their sock to show what they would want their sock to look like.   Hang socks on a clothes line to display their work or use to create a class book.

 

6.   Extension Activity

 

Activity

Have students wear socks to school for a fun day of activities.  You could have all students wear purple socks, socks with purple on them, two socks when colors mix together they would make purple, or their favorite socks.  You could use these socks to graph, make patterns, and compare alike/different.  You could also let the students perform various activities in their ‘sock feet’
