2022-23 AISD Calendar Survey

We have been working over the last few months in consultation with the Districtwide Consultation Committee (DWCC) and AISD Calendar Development Committee to develop the 2022-23 Academic calendar. At this point in the process there are two draft calendars for your review and feedback. It is important to remember that this is not a vote, but rather a feedback survey to let us know which option our students, parents, and employees prefer for next year.

The survey will be open for your feedback between today (November 4th) and 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16th. At the conclusion of the survey, results will be provided to the DWCC and District Calendar Development Committee for consideration at their combined meeting on Wednesday, November 17th. At the conclusion of that meeting, a single draft calendar will be recommended to the Abilene ISD Board of Trustees for consideration on Monday, December 6th.

Draft 1 is very similar to the 2021-22 AISD calendar. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 17th, and the calendar contains a Fall Break (a popular addition to the 2021-22 calendar) scheduled for October 7th-10th. Friday, October 7th, will once again be a professional learning day for AISD staff, while students will have the day off as part of a four-day weekend. Other features of Draft 1 include a week off at Thanksgiving, 12 days at Christmas for students (December 17th-January 3rd), and Spring Break is scheduled for March 13th-17th. At the conclusion of Christmas Break is a student holiday/teacher wok day on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Draft 2 includes Wednesday, August 17th, as the first day of school, incorporates the Fall Break in October, the full week off at Thanksgiving, and Spring Break (March 13th-17th). The major difference between Draft 1 and 2 can be found in the Christmas break schedule. In Draft 2, the fall semester continues through Wednesday, December 21st. Christmas Break in Draft 2 is identical for students and staff running December 22nd through January 6th. Both students and staff will return for the first day of the spring semester on Monday, January 9th.

Draft 1 includes 174 instructional days for students whereas Draft 2 only includes 173.  Both calendar drafts exceed the state minimum required number of minutes for students (76,500).

The school year ends on Thursday, May 25th, in both drafts. Graduation ceremonies will occur on Friday, May 26th (Cooper High School) and Saturday, May 27th (ATEMS and Abilene High School).
