Welcome to English I, Eagles! In this class, we will focus on the skills we need to read closely, think clearly, and communitcate effectively through writing and speaking, We will read like readers to learn about others' ideas, and then we will read like writers to learn how to express our own ideas. I hope you join me with eyes and minds wide open as we explore the world of reading and writing EVERYDAY!
Our readings and writings will be centered around six essential questions that I believe are relevant to all students beginning their high school journey:
Where do I belong?
How do my experiences shape me?
How do I make good decisions?
How do I want to be treated?
What is a hero?
What is courage?
I love getting to know students, and I know we will have a great year!
Let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one pen, and one book can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education first.
Summer Reading Assignment: ANIMAL FARM by George Orwell- make sure you read it and create your own "Seven Commandments" for Abilene High freshmen students. You should have at least seven commandments that are vital to the successful functioning of the freshman student. Reference chapter 11 for the text example. Bring the novel and your "Seven Commandments" to class Monday, Aug. 28th.
