Laurie Hunter
Laurie joined Abilene ISD in the summer of 2019 as the district’s Secondary Math Coordinator. Her career spans twenty-six years in education serving in various roles such as middle school math teacher, school counselor, and principal.
Laurie grew up in Big Lake, Texas, graduating from Reagan County High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Lubbock Christian University in Education with a specialization in mathematics. Laurie earned her master’s degree in School Counseling from Sul Ross State University in 2005 and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2010 from Texas Tech University. In August of 2019, Laurie graduated from Texas Tech University with a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction/Teacher Education.
Laurie views a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and students. Working with math teachers to help build and support professional growth and mastery is an important part of her work with Abilene ISD.
