Gateway to Technology students’ video wins awards

Reggie O’Bosky’s Gateway to Technology students came away as big winners at a recent awards ceremony held at the historic Paramount Theater in downtown Abilene.

The Mann Middle School crew of Litzy Tapia, Mia Prentice, Lilly Alexander, Catherynn Bennington and Gregory Steele earned two first-place awards Sept. 27 in a video contest sponsored by Texas Workforce Solutions. Middle schools and high schools from throughout the West Central Texas region were eligible to enter the contest.

Mr. Obosky and his students entered a video that they wrote and produced showcasing careers in technology manufacturing. The students interviewed a local manufacturing supervisor whose company makes gears and sprockets and highlighted information and business opportunities for careers in manufacturing.  The video also featured information on how students can become part of the manufacturing industry.

The video created by members of the Gateway class won first place in the Middle School category and was also judged best in the category for Manufacturing.  The $1,300 awarded to the school will be used to purchase equipment for use in the classroom. The video will also be featured on the Texas Workforce Solutions website.
