AWG WinnersIn February, three editors for the Gallimaufry, the literary and art journal of AISD,  won prizes in the high school division of Angelo State University Writer’s Conference.

Aubrey Embers was awarded second place for poetry, Lyric Kinkade won second place in the fiction category, and Lauren Schaeffer won first place for her story, “Mother Monster.”

In addition, Creative Writing students won awards in the Abilene Writer’s Guild annual contest. Amanda Cooper won second place in the Memoir/Nostalgia category with her piece “A Guide to Modern Nostalgia,” and Lauren Schaeffer was given an honorable mention in Unrhymed Poetry with her poem, “Fireflies.”  Both of these students were competing in the adult level competition against writers from across the United States.
