Dr. Jon Kraemer

Dr. Jon Kraemer has been named as Head Band Director at Abilene High School, succeeding Paul Walker, who is retiring after serving as the the band’s director for the past 21 years.

Dr. Kraemer has served as assistant band director at AHS during the 2017-18 school year and will be the tenth band director to lead the Eagle Band since 1926. The AHS band is considered the oldest marching band in the state.  Dr. Raymond Bynum, the founding director, taught at Abilene High for 20 years before moving to McMurry College where he also taught band for 26 years before retiring.  The band hall at AHS is named in his honor.

Kraemer earned his undergraduate degee in music from East Texas Baptist University and also owns a Master of Music and Doctor of Philosophy in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University.  Prior to his time at AHS, Dr. Kraemer taught band for 11 years as head band director in Pampa and at Lubbock Roosevelt.

He is married to Michelle, a stay at home mom who is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree.  They have a 15-month-old son named Jackson.
