Cooper High School’s AFJROTC Drill Team was named Grand Champion out of 22 schools at the Tiger Invitational Drill Meet in Corsicana on April 14.

Numerous teams and cadets captured team and individual awards:

  • The Unarmed Team under the command of Cadet Second Lieutenant Danyel Franco took 2nd in Exhibition and 3rd in Regulation.
  • The Armed Team under the command of Cadet Colonel Anthony Garcia placed first in Exhibition and 3rd in Regulation.
  • The Sabre Team under the command of Cadet First Lieutenant Rachel Merritt won 1st
  • Both the male color guard commanded by Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Mark Mahar and female Color Guard commanded by Cadet Captain Haliegh Pacatte placed 2nd.
  • Cadet Captain Ben Kish placed second in the solo exhibition category.
  • Cadet Pacatte teamed with Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Jose Vega to place 2nd in the tandem exhibition. At the end of the day, the Cooper Team was named Grand Champion out of 22 schools.
