Approximately 800 students in Abilene ISD celebrated their reading accomplishments during the 2017-18 school year with Million Word Reader Celebrations.

First, about 500 elementary students invaded the campus of Abilene Christian University on May 21 for a day of fun, learning and exercise.

Also, on May 21, about 150 million word readers from Clack and Madison middle schools celebrated with similar activities at McMurry University. On May 23, part two of the middle school version of MWR was held at McMurry for students from Craig and Mann.

AISD began the Million Word Reader incentive challenge eight years ago. Students track their reading progress throughout the school year with the Accelerated Reading program, which tabulates the number of words read after students pass a comprehension quiz when they finish each book.
