Dyess Elementary School will have a Constitution Day Flag Raising on Monday, Sept.17, at 8 a.m. in front of the school.

Students will recite and sing The Preamble in honor of the 231st anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, which took place on Sept.17, 1787. The anniversary of several other events will also be recognized with music at the flag raising:

  • The “Star Spangled Banner” will be played following the pledges. It was written on Sept. 14, 1814.
  • Students will sing “God Bless America,” which was written 100 years ago, in 1918, by Irving Berlin.
  • This year marks the 71st Anniversary of the U.S. Air Force, which was commissioned on Sept. 18, 1947.  Students will return to the building to the sounds of “Wild Blue Yonder.”

Parents, veterans, and community members are welcome to join the celebration.
