There is no shortage of Veterans Day programs and observances in the following days in Abilene ISD. Here is a roundup of notable events planned from Nov. 8 – 12.
- Jackson Elementary School Thursday, Nov. 8 6:30 p.m.
Jackson 5th graders will be performing the patriotic program “American Heart” in the Jackson cafeteria. Songs and spoken words will celebrate the Constitution, our 50 states and our great Veterans. - Thomas Elementary School Thursday, Nov. 8 6:30 p.m.
Fifth graders and the Thomas Texan Singers choir will present “A Salute to Our Veterans” with a medley of the military service songs and more. Veterans or active service military personnel are invited, and letters written by students thanking them for the service will be given to those in attendance. - Ward Elementary School Friday, Nov. 9 9:30 a.m., 2 p.m.
The K-2 assembly is at 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria and the 3-5 grade assembly is at 2 p.m. in the cafeteria. The honor choir will sing patriotic songs, students will lead the presentation of the flags and the pledge and a guest speaker. The program is followed by a parade of honor through the hallways of the school. Students will get to escort their veterans through the halls as the school cheers for them. - Taylor Elementary School Friday, Nov. 9 10:15 a.m.

- Martinez Elementary School Friday, Nov. 9 1:15 p.m.
Each grade level will sing for veterans in attendance. After a demonstration of the significance of the Missing Soldier, students will give veterans a handmade “Thank You” card. - Madison Middle School Friday, Nov. 9 1:30 p.m.
The district’s largest Veterans Day program is the annual “Salute to Our Veterans” assembly in the Madison gymnasium. The patriotic program will include the Cooper High JrROTC cadets, special remarks by active service members from Dyess Air Force Base, and special music by Madison bands, choirs and orchestras. - Reagan Elementary School Friday, Nov. 9 2 p.m.
Students have invited family members that are Veterans for a program in the cafeteria. - City of Abilene Veterans Day Parade Saturday, Nov. 10 11 a.m.
A combined marching band from Abilene High and Cooper High, and Air Force JrROTC units from both campuses will participate in the annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Abilene. - Bassetti Elementary School Monday, Nov. 12 8:30 a.m.
The Bassetti Bears are having their traditional parade through the halls followed by a patriotic musical program presented by 4th and 5th graders. The parade starts shortly after 8 a.m. followed by the program at 8:30. - Lee Elementary School Monday, Nov. 12 2 p.m.
Students and staff will host a program honoring Veterans in the Lee gym. Reception to follow - Cooper High School Monday, Nov. 12 2:50 p.m.
Student Council and JrROTC are teaming up Monday at 2:50 p.m. for a Veterans Day assembly at the flag pole in front of the auditorium. The ceremony will feature speeches from the leadership of Student Council and ROTC, as well as a recognition of everyone at Cooper who has served in the Armed Forces. The ceremony should last about 20 minutes.
