Four Abilene ISD debate students made it all the way to the state meet in UIL Congress competition.

Makayne Favor and Sonia Liu of Abilene High, Jackie Lacey of ATEMS and Isaac Lock of CHS represented Region 14 at the UIL Congress State Meet held Jan. 8-9 in Austin. These four students advanced to state through a regional contest hosted in Abilene last fall, earning a spot as one of the top 60 UIL Congress debaters in the state.

Makayne Favor of AHS placed second in preliminaries and moved to the final round, which was hosted at the State Capitol Building. After seven hours of debate, Makayne finished the competition placing 13th overall in the state.

Jackie, Isaac and Sonia missed breaking out of their preliminary rounds.

Seth Pietsek coaches both Abilene High and Cooper debate students, and Jera Bunton is the coach at ATEMS.
