Martinez Elementary School faculty, students and parents all came together in January to learn about leadership with the first Martinez Elementary Leader in Me Lingo Bingo.

The Lighthouse Committee and Foundations Team collaborated to find a new and fun way for families to spend time together, have fun and learn about the seven habits of leaders. What is better than a fun night of Bingo?

Leader in Me Lingo Bingo was a student-led event, and the students put on skits for all to understand each habit. Each habit was a round of bingo, and while a traditional bingo card has numbers, the Lingo Bingo card was full of vocabulary words that deal with the seven habits.

Students called out the words until a winner was found. At the end of the round, the students put on a short skit that helped families understand what each habit means. It allowed the students to help younger siblings and family members understand all that is involved in being a leader.

Prizes for winners included a Leader in Me family book and gift cards to local restaurants. The big finale was the grand prize of six movie passes, a restaurant gift card and a Leader in Me book.

While everyone was playing, the families were able to enjoy fresh popcorn and other concessions provided by the Martinez PTA.

A great time was had by all, and plans are to make Lingo Bingo an annual event.
