ABILENE – Advanced tickets for Friday night’s Southtown Showdown football game between Cooper and Wylie went on sale Tuesday and will be available until noon Friday.

Advanced ticket sales will take place at the One AISD Center (241 Pine St.) as well as at Wylie High School, Wylie East Junior High School and Wylie West Junior High School.

The Cougars and Bulldogs will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium in just the second game all-time between the two schools, which are located less than four miles apart on Abilene’s south side. Cooper won last year’s game, 48-0, in front of a sold-out crowd at Shotwell Stadium.

The game is back at Shotwell Stadium this year because Wylie’s Bulldog Stadium can’t handle the crowd, which could exceed 15,000 fans. Wylie, however, is the home team and will wear its home purple jersey, and its fans will sit on the west side (press box) side of the stadium. Wylie is 0-3 on the season and has lost 15 straight games with 13 of those coming since the Bulldogs moved up to Class 5A-Division II prior to the 2018 season.

Cooper will be the visitor and will wear its white road jerseys and its fans will sit on the east side of the stadium. The Cougars are 3-0 on the season and enter the game off last week’s 23-14 win over Abilene High in the Crosstown Showdown at Shotwell. The Cougars are ranked No. 16 in this week’s Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Class 5A-Division I state rankings.

Even though Wylie is the home team, ticket prices for Cooper home games will be used. Adults can purchase advance tickets for $8 at the Abilene ISD Ticket Office at One AISD Center. Office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Friday. Wylie fans can purchase tickets at the high school main office through 1:10 p.m. Friday and at the athletics office through 2 p.m. Friday.

After 12 p.m. on Friday, all tickets must be purchased at the stadium and all tickets will be $10 at the gate. All tickets sold at the stadium are reserved seating. The gates will open at 6 p.m.

Students can purchase tickets in advance at their individual campuses for $3 apiece.
