ABILENE – The AISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the district’s 2020-21 calendar at Monday night’s board meeting at One AISD Center.
Work on the calendar began shortly after the 2019-20 school year began and went through several drafts before two final drafts were submitted to the public in survey form and to members of both the Communications Council and District-Wide Consultation Committee. The version that was approved Monday . night is the version that earned the unanimous consent from the Communication Council and DWCC and was the overwhelming favorite from among the more than 1,400 survey responses received by the AISD.
The AISD will begin the 2020-21 school year on Thursday, Aug. 20, and will end on Thursday, May 27, 2021, with graduate ceremonies set for Saturday, May 29, 2021. The highlights of next year’s calendar are a fall break in October when students will be off on Friday, Oct. 9, and Monday, Oct. 12, while teachers will have a professional development day on Oct. 9 and a holiday on Oct. 12. The district was also able to add in a work day on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, the day before the spring semester begins on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.
