ABILENE – The Abilene Police Department is hosting a Junior Citizens Academy for local high school students, including those at Abilene High, Cooper and ATEMS. Registration is open to current juniors and seniors at those schools.

The Junior Citizens Academy – which will be June 1-3 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily – is designed to give participants an overview of the duties and responsibilities of the APD. The academy will covers areas such as Texas law, patrol procedures, special operations, investigative techniques and opportunities for civilians in a modern day police department.

Applicants should be juniors or seniors in the 2019-20 school year, have an interest in law enforcement (sworn or civilian) as a career, be passing all classes and be able to pass a background check. The class will consist mainly of seniors, although juniors will be accepted fill the class as space allows.

Interested applicants should complete the application form and submit it no later than May 1, 2020. Students who are accepted into the program will be notified on or before May 15, 2020.
