ABILENE — Both Abilene High School and Cooper High School orchestra students competed in the University Interscholastic League Region Solo and Ensemble competition on Saturday, February 22, at Wylie High School.  AISD had students advance to the UIL Texas State solo and Ensemble Contest which will be May 29 at the University of Texas at Austin.

CLASS 1 SOLO – 1st DIVISION RATING:
Earning a first division rating on a Class 1 solo was Abilene High School orchestra student Krystian Huff (bass). Earning a first division rating on a Class 1 solo were Cooper High School orchestra students John Tran (violin); Jose Pena (viola); and Alex Beckett (cello).

CLASS 2 SOLO – 1st DIVISION RATING:
Earning a first division rating on a Class 2 solo was Abilene High School orchestra student Samuel Jones (violin). Earning a first division rating on a Class 2 solo were Cooper High School orchestra students Sean Garrett (viola); Savanna Daily and Jaiden Roberts (cello); and Kaden Miller (bass).

CLASS 3 SOLO – 1st DIVISION RATING:
Earning a first division rating on a Class 3 solo was Abilene High School orchestra student Kaiya Norwood (violin).

SOLO STATE QUALIFIERS:
Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest in Austin by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo were Abilene High School orchestra students Caesar Chavez, Ethan Dunn, and Andrew Fink (violin); Grant Bridge, Frank Fang, and Dylan Mills (cello); and Dylan Fink (bass).

Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest in Austin by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo were Cooper High School orchestra students Trinity Fernandez and Mateo Vergara (violin); and Jared Ripple and Natalie Stefan (cello).

The Abilene ISD High School orchestra students are under the direction of Darcy Radcliffe and Fred Grigg.
