ABILENE – The Cooper band drum line finished out its competition season earlier this season by winning the prestigious Caprock Color Guard Circuit contest

After finishing second last year in its first year on the CCGC circuit, Cooper picked up a first-place trophy for its efforts in 2020. The competition was a virtual competition on April 18 that saw judges comb through the most recent competition videos of the entering schools.

The Cooper drum line won two contests this year – the Roosevelt Contest in Lubbock on Feb. 20 and the CCGC Championships – and finished second at the Seagraves Contest on March 7. The circuit was originally formed to provide performance venues closer to home while building the quality of color guards and drumlines in West Texas.

This year’s show was entitled “Things That Go Bump …” featuring music by Avenged Sevenfold arranged by CHS associate director of bands / percussion coordinator Patrick Stevenson. Drill and visual programs were written using software purchased with a generous grant from the Abilene Education Foundation.
