ABILENE – Both Abilene High School and Cooper High School orchestra students competed in the University Interscholastic League Region Solo and Ensemble competition on Saturday, February 27, 2021.  AISD had students advance to the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest which will be held virtually in May.

CLASS 1 SOLO – 1ST DIVISION RATING: Earning a first division rating on a Class 1 solo was Abilene High School orchestra student Krystian Huff (bass). Earning a first division rating on a Class 1 solo were Cooper High School orchestra students Trinity Fernandez (violin); Jose Peña (viola); Thomas Beckett (cello); and Kaden Miller (bass).

CLASS 2 SOLO – 1ST DIVISION RATING: Earning a first division rating on a Class 2 solo were Cooper High School orchestra students Allie Abernathy, Dylan Garcia, Jeanett Macias, and Nicolle Valite (violin); Sean Garrett (viola); and Jonathan Beckett, Dathan Dillinger, and Natalie Stefan (cello).

CLASS 3 SOLO – 1ST DIVISION RATING: Earning a first division rating on a Class 3 solo was Abilene High School orchestra students Karissa Chapman (violin); and Brodey Barylak (cello).

STATE SOLO QUALIFIERS: Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo were Abilene High School orchestra students Grant Bridge (cello), Ethan Dunn (violin), Frank Fang (cello), and Gabriella Garza (cello). Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 memorized solo was Cooper High School band student Jazmine Malazo (piano).

STATE ENSEMBLE QUALIFIERS: Qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a Class 1 ensemble were Cooper High School orchestra students Trinity Fernandez and Janelle Ripple (violin duet).

Students are under the direction of Darcy Radcliffe and Fred Grigg.
