The Abilene ISD will return to normal school operations on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, after a brief closure due to staff shortages brought on by the rapid spread of COVID-19 cases in our district and community. After closing Friday, January 14, through Tuesday, January 18, the district has determined that it will have enough staff to return to a normal schedule tomorrow (Wednesday, January 19).

The AISD will be making an adjustment to one of its health and safety protocols when campuses re-open Wednesday and that is that the district will not permit parents and / or guardians to visit the campus and eat either breakfast or lunch with their child inside the building.

The district’s top priority each day is to provide safe, productive, and healthy learning environments for everyone. While the stoppage in operations was not ideal for either students or staff, it was necessary due to the lack of sufficient staffing or substitute personnel necessary to safely conduct appropriate academic instruction in our classrooms.

As always, the district will continue to consult with local health officials to evaluate current conditions and make the best decisions for the health and safety of our students, staff, and community. We look forward to welcoming all students and staff back to campuses across the district tomorrow.
