Upcoming Departure of Executive Director Christine Curtis-Carr

At January’s monthly board meeting, Christine Curtis-Carr announced this would be her last school year to serve as Executive Director of the Abilene Education Foundation. Mrs. Curtis- Carr has served AEF for 13 years, first as a College Advisor at Abilene High School, then as Program Coordinator and for several years as Executive Director.

According to current board President Ryan Gibson, “We are deeply grateful to Christine for her years of service to the students and teachers of AISD. She is simply ready to pursue other activities, and we are thankful she is giving us plenty of time to find a replacement. The full board was informed of her decision at our board meeting on January 20th. We have a succession plan in motion, and our executive committee will post the position soon on the AEF website with our hope to have someone in place by the start of 2022-2023 school year.”

In her statement to the board Christine expressed, “Being part of AEF, leading AEF as its Director has truly been an honor. It seems like a lifetime ago when I interviewed with past Director Jean McMillon, eager to get started in the non-profit education world. I had no idea how being part of AEF would change me from the inside out-seeing AEF grow and make a real impact on the lives of so many students through our COOL (college advising) program, our teachers and STAR grant program, Young Masters and so much more, it has been beyond rewarding. I am excited to see the even greater impact this organization will make going forward. I will always hold a love for AEF. Public education, particularly in Abilene ISD is after all my family’s legacy, and it will continue to be something I advocate for, just no longer in the role as Director of AEF. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve our students and teachers for the past thirteen years. It has been a privilege.”
