Prior to Abilene High’s district basketball game (Feb. 8th) against San Angelo Central, AHS boys’ basketball coach Justin Reese was honored for achieving career win No. 300 earlier this season. Coach Reese was presented a plaque by his father – former AHS head baseball and softball coach Jim Reese – in a pre-game ceremony.

Justin, now in his fourth season as the Eagles’ head coach, notched his 300th career win on Dec. 10, 2021, in a 65-43 win over Wylie. Justin is in his fourth season as the Eagles’ head coach, returning to his alma mater in July 2018 after spending the previous 11 seasons as the head coach at Crosby High School (2007-09) and then Richardson (2009-18). In his 15 seasons as a head coach, he’s led his team to the playoffs 10 times, won three district titles, five bi-district titles, and reached the regional quarterfinals twice.

“I’ve been lucky. I’ve worked work with great people everywhere I’ve been, including here in Abilene ISD.  I’ve gotten to lead and mentor some great kids. The cool part about this journey so far has been all the great relationships I’ve made all the way. It’s been great coming back to Abilene and getting to lead the program that I played in. That makes this milestone extra special.

“As far as the wins goes, it means I’ve had some really good players. I’ve been fortunate to have my ex-players and current players buy into our staff and culture. They are awesome and they have done the heavy lifting. I’m lucky to coach all these great kids. And it means I’m getting old!”

Congratulations to Coach Reese on reaching the 300-win mark. Now on to the next 300!
