Abilene ISD has named Julie Wilson as the district’s next Director of Early Childhood. Wilson, who has served as Instructional Coordinator for AISD’s Early Childhood program since 2014, will step into her new role after the upcoming retirement of longtime EC program director Jennifer Putnam in June.

“The staff, students and families of Early Childhood, together with the Abilene community, work tirelessly to ensure the littlest of learners succeed in the foundational skills necessary to be school ready,” said Wilson. “It’s a true honor to continue the great mission of the Abilene ISD Early Childhood program alongside them.”

Superintendent Dr. David Young shared his appreciation for outgoing director Putnam while looking forward to the experience and skill Wilson will bring in service to the district’s youngest students and their families.

“Jenny Putnam is just a genuinely kind person, and she has done a great job leading our early childhood programs. She will certainly be missed,” Young said. “We are excited to have Julie Wilson as the next director of early childhood. She is creative and a good communicator. Her experience both in and out of our district has positioned her to be a successful leader of our early childhood programs.”

Wilson first joined AISD in 2013 as a pre-kindergarten teacher after seven years of teaching at Town Center Elementary in Coppell, Texas. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Baylor University, as well as a master’s degree in early childhood education and a principal certification from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
