Abilene ISD has selected Kevin Wellborn to serve as the next principal at Bonham Elementary.

Wellborn has served Abilene students and families as an assistant principal at four AISD campuses since 2016, including Clack Middle School and Bonham, Bowie, and Reagan elementary schools. In 2019-2020, he was named the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Assistant Principal of the Year for Region 14.

“Bonham Elementary is near and dear to my heart,” said Wellborn. “It is the school both of my children attended and the school at which I started my career in Abilene ISD. I feel blessed to be returning as the principal and cannot wait to get started with the team of teachers and staff in place there.”

Superintendent Dr. David Young stated his confidence in the experienced campus leadership Wellborn will bring to the Bonham Elementary community.

“Kevin Welborn is an outstanding campus administrator,” Young said. “He brings extensive campus experience to the table as a teacher and assistant principal at schools across AISD. Kevin is well-suited to this role and ready to lead Bonham Elementary into the future.”

Wellborn became part of the Abilene ISD team in 2004 as a classroom teacher at Bonham, spending twelve years in that role before moving into campus administration. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education as well as a certificate in conflict resolution for educators from Abilene Christian University. Wellborn succeeds Dr. Kyle Wiskow, who served as principal at Bonham during the past three school years.
