Brandon’a Garcia: Fine Arts Educator Spotlight, February 2022

Mrs. Garcia shows admirable creativity and participation in cross-curricular experiences for her campus. This year she created a large Dia De Los Muertos ofrenda on the stage of her school. She also works with her students to create set designs and displays for music performances at Taylor Elementary School. During the holiday program, large snowy trees adorned the sides of the stage, creating a winter wonderland. For a more recent program that included songs from around the world, she adorned the stage with brightly colored flags.

In addition to being a fantastic art teacher, Mrs. Garcia is an excellent and well-loved leader on her team at her campus as well as among the AISD fine arts educator group which boasts over 84 teachers. Her warmness to her students and community are not unnoticed, and we are so glad to feature Mrs. Garcia as the February Fine Arts Educator Spotlight. Mrs. Garcia received gift items as well as a family membership from the Grace Museum.

John Landin: Fine Arts Educator Spotlight, March 2022

John Landin, band director at Cooper High, is the Fine Arts Educator spotlight recipient for the month of March.

New to Abilene ISD this year, Landin has done a wonderful job as band director for CHS. Not only is he doing great things with the musicians of his campus, but he has become an integral part of the Cooper community as well. He is always volunteering to assist with needed coverage on his campus and lend a helping hand to others. His generous attitude has been appreciated by his fellow educators and administrators. Landin will also be receiving the McMurry University 2022 Outstanding Alumni in Fine Arts Award.

Thank you, Mr. Landin, for all that you do for your students, campus, and the fine arts department. For being named the March recipient, Mr. Landon received dinner for two at Cypress Street Station, donated by the owners.
