Abilene ISD Superintendent Dr. David Young has been selected as the 2022 Superintendent of the Year for Region 14.

Attendees at the AISD Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, June 6, received a surprise visit from Shane Fields, Executive Director of the Region 14 Education Service Center, who was on hand to announce Dr. Young’s selection. The announcement followed the Board’s official nomination of Dr. Young for this recognition in April. During his comments, Fields praised Dr. Young for his focus on student achievement, leading the successful 2018 bond campaign that created new and improved learning facilities throughout AISD, and his willingness to assist other Region 14 school districts with resources throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

β€œIt is a tremendous honor to have been selected for this recognition,” said Dr. Young. β€œI am thankful to serve the students and families of Abilene ISD alongside the best team of teachers and staff in Texas.”

Dr. Young will move forward to receive additional consideration for the state-level Superintendent of the Year award from the TASB State Selection Committee. He will also be honored at the statewide TASA/TASB txEDCON Convention in September.
