Big Screen Ahead: New Video Board to be Installed This Fall

The first of two major upgrades to Shotwell Stadium is underway as on Wednesday, September 7, crews began demolition of the existing video board on the north end of the stadium. Daktronics, the company that is providing Abilene ISD’s new state-of-the-art video board, has indicated it will take approximately three weeks for the new board to be fully operational.

The district is planning for the first game with the new video board to take place on Friday, October 7, when Abilene High hosts Amarillo Caprock. A new south end zone scoreboard and play clocks were installed last week to ensure that fans have access to in-game information while the new video board is being installed. Shotwell will not have a video board for the following games while the new video board is under construction:

  • Cooper vs. San Angelo Central on September 9
  • Abilene High vs. Frenship on September 16
  • Abilene High vs. Lubbock Monterey on September 23

Pardon Our Dust: New Press Box Preparations Underway

Preparation for the construction of the new Shotwell Stadium press box also began this week. While the new press box will not be ready to greet visitors until the first week of the 2023 football season, we want our fans to be aware that they will notice ongoing construction activity at Shotwell related to the new press box throughout the remainder of this fall.

The district is working with SEDALCO to construct this exciting new upgrade and their job trailer is currently on site. Construction fencing will begin appearing under the west side stands as early as the week of September 12. Additionally, a portion of the west parking lot will be reserved for use as a press box construction staging area during that same week.

We appreciate our fans and their patience as we work to get the necessary infrastructure in place to make Shotwell the premier athletics complex in the Big Country!
