Big Cheese: Culinary Arts Students Are Judges’ Choice

How many ways can you serve mac and cheese? Abilene got to find out when The Big Brothers Big Sisters 5th Annual The Big Cheese event came to the Convention Center.

Ten different local restaurants and chefs got to show the public what sort of original spin they could put on the classic dish, all the while competing to be crowned “The Big Cheese”. The Judges’ Choice award went to Abilene ISD’s Advanced Culinary Arts students, who made their mac and cheese with Mornay sauce, Gruyere and Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and crispy bacon. The People’s Choice award went to Jay’s BBQ Shack. The Kid’s Choice and coveted Big Cheese awards were given to the Abilene Country Club. A tasty and fun time was had by all with all proceeds going to the Big Brothers Big Sisters mission to help children reach their potential.
