Two Abilene High School choir students earned large-school all-state honors after competing at the Texas Music Educators Association Area A Vocal Audition on Jan. 7 at Midland Legacy High School.

Junior Hope Arrazola earned first chair as an Alto 1 in the All-State Mixed Choir, while sophomore Mattie Spaulding earned third chair as an Alto 1 in the All-State Treble Choir. Arrazola, who has earned all-state honors in each of her first three years in high school, and Spaulding each earned all-region, pre-area, and all-area honors along the way. 

Both Arrazola and Spaulding will be part of the large school all-state choir that will perform at the TMEA Convention, Feb. 8-11, in San Antonio.

AHS senior Kelsie Patterson earned all-region and pre-area honors as an Alto 1. 

Other Abilene High students who earned all-region honors were senior Shelby Anders (Soprano 1), freshman Cierra Brown (Soprano 2), senior Alex Dacanay (Soprano 1), senior Bradie Flores (Soprano 2), senior Vicky Gao (Soprano 1), sophomore Izayah Jaramillo (Bass 1), freshman Mary Lowe (Alto 1), junior Arabella Marz (Soprano 2), senior Mira Savage (Soprano 1), and sophomore Zoe Wilson (Soprano 1).

Cooper High School senior Kadence Viel earned all-region honors as an Alto 2.
