Abilene High School and Cooper High School choir students competed in the University Interscholastic League Region 6 East Zone Solo and Ensemble competition on Jan. 28 at the Williams Performing Arts Center on the campus of Abilene Christian University.
Qualifying for the State UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a memorized Class 1 solo were AHS choir students Morgan Anders, Shelby Anders, Hope Arrazola, Baylee Barnes, Caitlyn Bowman, Cierra Brown, Hannah Bryant, Diego Castillo, Camp Churchill, Jordan Cotton, Kaila Craddock, Alex Dacanay, Paradice DeMartini, Emma Elliott, JC Enriquez, Kaylie Enriquez, Hope Fambrough, Bradie Flores, Vicky Gao, Natalie Hancock, Bailey Hinds, Olivia Horn, Izayah Jaramillo, Jackson Liske, Mary Lowe, Arabella Marz, Josh Melson, Alan Mercer, Carrie Mercer, Sam Pinson, Dae Rapp, Alice Anne Riley, Ethan Robertson, Mira Savage, Aiden Schwartz, Mattie Spaulding, Griffin Sullivan, Nolan Sullivan, Myra Thomas, and Kate Tolar.
Those students from AHS who earned an excellent (2) rating were Hayle Burton, Valorie Hernandez, Sarah Isbell, Zoe Jeter, Kaitlyn Johnson, Hazel Samuels, Alyssa Segura, Caroline Siburt, James Truong, and Zoey Wallace.

Qualifying for the State UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest by earning a first division rating on a memorized Class 1 ensemble were CHS choir students Gaven Aguirre, Sayyonce Ardrey, Adam Gutierrez, Ian Martin, Emily Mitchell, Lauren Valentine, Kadence Viel, and Kyler Wheeler in one ensemble group, and Logan Hamilton, Kayleigh Henry, Jordan Hernandez, Jalissa Martinez, Tristan Sanchez, and Avery Simer in a second ensemble group.
Those students from Cooper who earned an excellent (2) rating were Gaven Aguirre, Bryana Corral, Joray Cortez, Liz Gentry, Bryana Parson, and Kadence Viel.
The UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest will be in Austin on May 29. AHS choirs are directed by Wendy Weeks and Remel Derrick. CHS choirs are directed by Reese Kingcade and Josh Westman.
