A total of 30 Abilene ISD high school band, choir, and orchestra students have been honored as Texas Music Scholars by the Texas Music Educators’ Association for the 2022-23 school year.

TMEA sponsors the Texas All-State Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs. Each year, more than 2,000 students are named Texas Music Scholars. The award is given to students who have exhibited outstanding qualities in scholastic merit, musicianship, and citizenship in their school and community during the 2022-23 school year.

Abilene High School had a total of 23 students in band, choir, and orchestra honored, while Cooper High School had seven students earn the distinction. The students were nominated for this honor by their directors: Alanna Curley (band), Wendy Weeks (choir), and Elizabeth Blatchley (orchestra) at AHS, and John Landin (band), Reece Kingcade (choir), and Fred Grigg (orchestra) at Cooper.

AISD’s 2022-23 Texas Scholars:

  • AHS Band– Anson Cobarruvias (trombone), Stephen Giffith (oboe), Lianna Pfrimmer (French hỏn), Adi Pilit (euphonium), Mattie Spaulding (percussion), Sydney Spell (clarinet), and Mallory Traylor (percussion).
  • AHS Choir– Shelby Anders (soprano), Hope Arrazola (alto), Hannah Bryant (alto), Diego Castillo (tenor), Jordan Cotton (bass), Alex Dacanay (soprano), Paradice DeMartini (alto), Bradie Flores (soprano), Vicky Gao (soprano), Jackson Lisle (bass), Mary Lowe (alto), Arabella Marz (soprano), Mira Savage (soprano), and Mattie Spaulding (alto).
  • AHS Orchestra– Ethan Dunn (violin) and Zoe Prescott (viola).
  • CHS Band– Owen Bailey (oboe), Aaron Brokovich (percussion), Jonathon Carranza (cornet/trumpet), Aaron Reece (French horn), and Isis Salazar (flute).
  • CHS Choir– Kadence Viel (alto)
  • CHS Orchestra– Dathan Dillinger (cello)
