The Abilene High School and Cooper High School boys’ gymnastics teams each finished in the top 15 at the Texas High School Gymnastics State Championship meet on April 28-29 at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station. The Eagles finished 14th with a total of 99.7, while the Cougars were one spot back in 15th with 96.15 points. 

Cooper’s Tristan Reyna finished 11th in the all-around competition with 50.90 points in six events, while Abilene High’s Joel Dantzler was 18th with 48.75 points. Reyna’s best finish was a tie for 11th in the vault, where he scored a 9.15. Dantzler’s best finish was a tie for ninth in the floor exercise, where he scored 8.95.

Dantzler was also named to the Texas High School Senior National Team and will compete representing Texas and the United States in New Orleans on June 17.

Cooper’s Evan Banks was 31st in the all-around (45.25 points, with a best score of 9.05 in the vault). Korban Jackson from Abilene High was 39th in the all-around (41.65 points, with a best score of 8.0 in the vault).

On the girls’ side, Cooper finished 23rd with 32.875 points and Abilene High finished 24th with 35.525 points. Cooper’s Clementine Katele was 54th in the all-around competition with all of Cooper’s points (32.875). Abilene High’s Andrea Volk was 55th in the all-around competition with all of the Lady Eagles’ points (35.525). 

Katele’s best score was 9.4 in the vault, which was good for 20th place. Meanwhile, Volk’s best score was 9.0 in the floor exercise, good enough for 23rd place.
