Hi.  I am Debra McCracken.  I was born and raised in Abilene…Go Eagles!  I have been a Registered Nurse since 1981.  I have been with AISD since 1998.  I have extensive experience in Emergency Nursing, OB/Gyn Nursing, and Public Health Nursing.  My husband is a registered nurse and he has taught the 4th and 5th grade boys health class here at Alcorta.  We have one daughter, Katie, who is an attorney here in Abilene. Her husband is as well.  We welcomed our first Grand baby in 2019…A beautiful, amazing little girl!

During the school year, we will conduct  hearing and vision screenings on all K, 1, 3, 5 and new students to the district.  This is mandated by law.  All students will have a blood pressure check.  5th grade girls will be screened for Scoliosis in December.  This is also mandated by law.  Boys are screened in middle school.  Heights and weights are done thru PE usually in April.  There will be Dental classes, the 2nd grade gets a visit from a local dentist, and 5th grade has Always Changing Health Class in the Spring.  I do Health Tip Tuesday during the announcements.  This is when i pass along  helpful and sometimes funny information to the students and staff.

I hope the children, families, and staff always know I am here for them and that I want to promote the best health possible.

Please notify me of any health or medication changes for your student so I can document it appropriately.  The better I’m informed, the better the teachers are informed which is important for your student’s health care.   If your student receives any shots during the year, please let me know so I can add this to the immunization record.  Thank you and I look forward to working with your student .
