The Academy of Technology, Engineering, Math & Science is a TEA designated T-STEM public high school. As the only STEM campus in Abilene ISD, ATEMS is dedicated to providing an excellent educational experience for students who are interested in engineering or information technology and are considering college majors and careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. ATEMS focuses on both academic excellence and personal responsibility.
ATEMS offers two academic pathways: engineering and information technology. Every ATEMS student selects one of these pathways and follows a four year sequence of specialized coursework in that chosen field. Students must also complete a minimum of four years of math and science with the fourth math being at least pre-calculus.
ATEMS students benefit from one-to-one technology access, dual credit and Advanced Placement classes, and both traditional and Project-Based instruction. Students have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities and organizations on the ATEMS campus and may also choose to participate in band, orchestra, choir, athletics, and JROTC at Abilene and Cooper High Schools.
Students who are interested in being considered for admission to ATEMS must complete and submit an application online. Applications for the 2019-20 school year can be accessed online beginning February 4th, 2019. The initial application window will close on March 15th, 2019. If you do not have internet access, you may come to the ATEMS campus at 650 E HWY 80 and use our resources to submit your application. Applications received during the February – March window will be reviewed, and initial letters of admission status will be mailed during the week of March 25th, 2019.
After March 15th, the application will remain available online and applications will continue to be accepted . All applications may be considered for admission throughout the summer.
Students who reside outside of Abilene ISD who would like to be considered for admission to ATEMS should complete the following steps: 1) The student must complete and submit an online application. 2) Parents must mail the supporting documentation as described below to ATEMS. 3) If the out-of-district student is conditionally admitted to ATEMS pending transfer approval, the parents must apply for an Abilene ISD out-of-district transfer through the Office of Student Services at One AISD at 241 Pine Street. The dates that these transfer requests will be accepted at One AISD has not yet been announced. For more information about out of district transfers, please call the Office of Student Services at 325-677-1444, extension 8764. An out-of-district student’s final admission status to ATEMS will not be determined until the student’s transfer has been either accepted or denied by Abilene ISD; however, conditional admission pending transfer approval may be offered at an earlier date.
