Jill Monroe

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English with minors in History and Communication from Angelo State University, and I have been teaching since 1995.  Early in life, I decided that I wanted to teach because I love students and the English language!  I also like being involved in student events, so I coach UIL persuasive speaking, informative speaking, student congress, and oral interpretation (prose and poetry).  My students keep me happy and moving; they have so much energy and joy! I teach Honors & Academic English I and Honors English II.  English class has changed in recent years; we no longer just sit and read novels all day!  English actually has seven "strands."  From TEA & our TEKS:  "The English language arts and reading Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) embody the interconnected nature of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking through the seven integrated strands of developing and sustaining foundational language skills; comprehension; response; multiple genres; author's purpose and craft; composition; and inquiry and research." At ATEMS, we incorporate project based learning, so each unit will focus on a project and our literature, reading, research, and other tasks will revolve around that project.     English I Project Samples:  Children's Literature Book, Romeo & Juliet PSA, The Odyssey Themed Amusement Park Ride.     English II Project Samples:  Fear-Based Business Proposal, Dystopian Short Story Scholastic Contest, Passion Project Website, Caesar as an Animated Children's Movie.     Textbook:  Students can access our textbook online by using their normal username and password to log onto our ClassLink site:  https://myapps.classlink.com/home.  Students should look for the Pearson Easybridge link/app located on that site.      5th period A lunch:  Students who are in my fifth-period class have "A" lunch from 11:35-12:15.    Conference Period: 8th period, 3-3:40 PM.    Contact information:  jill.monroe@abileneisd.org, 325-794-4140 X 7013
