ESL

Today’s language-minority students will dramatically impact the future of our nation. Students at Bowie who are identified, are provided instruction that is independent from the classroom so that certain objectives can achieved and so the child will be proficient in English.

To facilitate the success of language-minority students in Abilene, the following goals have been established for our bilingual and ESL students:
  • Enable LEP students to become competent in speaking, reading, writing, and comprehending the English language.
  • Provide the instructional support needed for LEP student to master the English language and to participate effectively the general education program as quickly as possible.
  • Promote acceptance of Bilingual and ESL instructional as an integral part of the entire academic program.
  • Set high expectations and value the native language for all language –minority students.
