Principal

My name is Debra Stewart, and it is a privilege and an honor to be joining the Craig Colts team.  My husband, Jeff and myself are Texas born and raised.  We moved to Abilene in 2015 and have loved our time here in this great city.  My husband and I have two sons, Zach and Nate.  Both are married, Zach to Mariah and Nate to Ashlynn.

I have heard nothing but great things about the students and families at Craig Middle School.  Each time I interact with any member of the school the message has been the same, “You are very lucky. You are at a great school with great kids/families and teachers.”  My goal is to jump in, continue to learn about the Craig community, and work tirelessly to lead our school in a positive direction.

This year marks my 28th year in education.  I have varied experience as a teacher and school leader.  For the first two years of my career I served at both the elementary and middle school levels, teaching a variety of grades and content areas.  I then served for four years homeschooling other people’s kids ranging from 2nd -12th grades.  I have been in administration as an assistant principal at the elementary school and high school levels, and serving the last nine years as a campus principal, five years in Ector County, and four years in Abilene ISD.

I love serving as a principal!  My passion is developing positive relationships with everyone within the community, working with students as they grow, supporting teachers and staff so that they can reach their greatest potential, strengthening a connection between school and home, and fostering a positive school culture.  At our core, we know that the school to home partnership is what allows us to provide an extraordinary school experience for all students.  I look forward to meeting each of you and learning how I can best support you throughout this year, and many more to come.

Together we are better…Go Craig Colts!
