Mental Health

The EHS Mental Health Professional is available on-site for the Crockett EHS program.  Mental Health staff are appropriately licensed and certified to provide mental health services to EHS children, families, and staff.  Mental Health services encompass three primary areas of focus:

(1) to work with EHS children to teach basic social/emotional/ behavioral/self-regulation skills, and to address concerns raised by parents and staff related to those areas of development;

Self-Regulation: Children who can manage their feelings can learn and play with peers. They are better able to plan, monitor and   control their behavior. They can also adjust to changes in schedules and routines.

(2) to provide information, training and support EHS parents to facilitate healthy social/emotional development, to teach positive and healthy parenting skills, to address mental health concerns within their children and families; to ensure access to additional mental health services for their children and family, and, when appropriate, to make referrals for additional mental health services from community health service providers; and

(3) to provide information, training and support to EHS staff through regular contact both in and outside the classroom regarding the social/emotional development and behavioral concerns about children and families in their class, and to provide personal mental health support to staff with their own mental health and family concerns, and when appropriate, to make referrals for additional mental health services from community health service providers.

Early relationships shape children’s learning and development. These relationships help them develop the confidence to learn new skills. Children also learn how to manage their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.
