English as A Second Language

Bilingual/English as a Second Language – Identified bilingual and ESL students must be served by teachers who are certified in BE/ESL. To adequate address the unique needs of English language acquisition, teachers must develop and teach activities that are rich in language and designed to accelerate English language development. All teachers should develop a skill-set—including a variety of teaching strategies such as sheltered instruction and differentiation—to help students learning the English language. The professional development opportunities below will enhance the teacher’s understanding and will provide them with instructional strategies to best meet the needs of AISD’s most language diverse students.
