The Adult Education Programs are based on the belief that every adult, regardless of age, is entitled to a basic education. The following programs are available to give adults a second chance to further their education: 

Adult Basic Education

English as a Second Language (ESL)


Adult Secondary Education  (GED Classes)

United States Citizenship

Who can attend? The Adult Education Programs are open to anyone who is 19 or older.
What does it cost? There is no cost for instruction and/or materials for students enrolled. The Adult Education Programs are sponsored by the Abilene Independent School District and are supported by state and federal grant funds.
How do I register for ESL and GED classes?  Call 671-4419  and ask for next available dates and times
GED Morning Class Orientation:   April 24 & 25 or April 26 & 27 
GED Evening Class Orientation:   April 25, 27 & May 2 (3 evening orientation) 
GED Afternoon Class Orientation:   May 2, 3 & 4 (3 afternoon orientation)
Must attend each day of orientation to complete registration for GED classes.

Morning class times are 8:30 - 11:30 am; afternoon class times are 1:30 - 4:30 pm, (afternoon class is for GED only.)



Tuesday and Thursday 5:30 to 8:30 PM.

Day and evening classes are also offered at other sites in Abilene.

The Adult Education Program currently provides classes in the following cities:

Albany, Ballinger, Breckenridge, Brownwood, Cisco, Coleman, Colorado City, Cross Plains, Deleon, Hamlin, Rotan, Snyder, and Sweetwater.
