  • The Few.  The Proud.  The Readers.  The Thomas Texans.

Thomas Elementary Library is an integral part of our school. Students are encouraged to read, read, and read some more. They are taught to choose their own books wisely. We emphasize that practicing reading is big part of what makes us better readers. The more you read, the better you will read.

Accelerated Reader is one program we use to encourage reading. Students can choose AR books on their reading level, read their books, and then take tests to earn points. Students are rewarded when they reach 25, 50, 75, and 100 AR points. When they reach 125 AR points, they are invited to attend our Midnight Madness Party at the end of the year. It is a fun time to celebrate the joy of reading. We also track how many words the students have read. Each student is working toward the goal of reading one million words. When they reach this goal they will be invited to the city wide celebration, and receive various other rewards. We recognize these students by hanging their pictures in our hallways. As the students earn points they may spend these points in Thomasville, or they may choose to save them to spend at the end of the year on trips and other big treats.
