• Be an All Star Reader:
Get Your Leaf on Our Reading Tree

Ortiz Elementary Library is an integral part of our school. Students are encouraged to read, read, and read some more. They are taught to choose their own books wisely. We emphasize that practicing reading is big part of what makes us better readers. The more you read, the better you will read.

Accelerated Reader is one program we use to encourage reading. Students can choose AR books on their reading level, read their books, and then take tests to earn points. Students are rewarded with a medal when they reach 25, 50, and 75 AR points. When they reach 100 AR points, they are invited to attend our Midnight Madness Party at the end of the year. It is a fun time to celebrate the joy of reading.

This year we are also tracking how many words the students have read. Each student is working toward the goal of reading one million words
