On June 2, 2011, The USDA announced that the food pyramid that has represented a healthy diet for over 20 years has given way to a new icon, a plate (see above). It’s called MyPlate, and it has four colored sections representing fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins. Next to the plate is a smaller circle representing dairy products. This, they say, makes understanding healthy food choices easier to understand.
