Welcome to the Sam Houston Achievement Center!
My name is Marlyn Young. I have been the Principal of the Sam Houston Achievement Center since December 2018. I grew up in Abilene, Texas and attended Fannin Elementary until my family moved. I returned back to Abilene in 1992 and completed my Bachelors in Multidisciplinary Studies in 1995. I returned back to school to complete my Masters in Administration in 2007, and I am currently finishing my doctorate degree in Special Education. I am a mother of two talented children who also attend AISD schools.
I have been an reading teacher, dyslexic interventionist, instructional coach, assistant principal, and Principal. I am currently the District Behavioral Coordinator as well as the Principal of S. A.C.
It is our goal here at the Sam Houston Achievement Center to make sure every child and family are welcomed and valued. We pride ourselves in customizing the classroom environment and academic Instruction to meet the needs of each child’s behavioral, emotional, and academic level to achieve success daily.
It is my pleasure to be the principal of the Abilene Independent School District’s DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Program). With more than 3 decades of educational experience, I am thrilled to be provided the opportunity to ensure that students are supported, valued and encouraged to succeed. I am excited to work with students and families, whom I love. The DAEP staff has produced many positive changes over the past few years. We have implemented best practices which have made our setting unique, among the best DAEP’s across the state. The Abilene ISD DAEP has dedicated and committed staff members who are determined to ensure academic excellence for all students. Our goal is that EVERY student “Leaves BETTER than they came!” We will continue in our determination to produce students who are successful (academically and behaviorally) striving to achieve despite situations or circumstance. Thank you to all who support the DAEP and its efforts.
