Barbara A. Massey (Principal-DAEP)
It is my pleasure to be the principal of the Abilene Independent School District’s DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Program). With more than 3 decades of educational experience, I am thrilled to be provided the opportunity to ensure that students are supported, valued and encouraged to succeed. I am excited to work with students and families, whom I love. The DAEP staff has produced many positive changes over the past few years. We have implemented best practices which have made our setting unique, among the best DAEP’s across the state. The Abilene ISD DAEP has dedicated and committed staff members who are determined to ensure academic excellence for all students. Our goal is that EVERY student “Leaves BETTER than they came!” We will continue in our determination to produce students who are successful (academically and behaviorally) striving to achieve despite situations or circumstance. Thank you to all who support the DAEP and its efforts.
Philosophy of Education
My philosophy of education is simply put, “All students can learn.” I believe that all students can obtain personal excellence. The key to personal excellence is making sure that students are allowed to take their learning to the next level. Student growth is paramount. At the DAEP we begin by exploring and assessing each students’ capabilities and not giving up until we find how students learn, best. Our goal is to make learning meaningful by forming connections to students’, their lives, past educational experiences, and specific learning styles. I believe that every student is deserving of love and respect. I am convinced that all students are capable of achieving anything they believe that they can achieve. The reward for the DAEP staff will be being a part of the process that will ensure the success of each and every student who is placed at the DAEP. My desire is to obtain the resources necessary to meet the needs of my diverse student population (ensuring that students experience success and are productive throughout their placement). As principal, I pledge to empower my teachers to produce the greatest level of growth possible. Together we will make positive differences in the lives of students, every day. I look forward to working as a team with parents, students, staff, and community members to provide exemplary educational experiences at the DAEP.
The MISSION of the Abilene ISD Disciplinary Alternative education Program is to actively and consistently seek to be an educational setting where students find HOPE, HELP, ENCOURAGEMENT and an enhanced personal desire for positive CHANGE. Among our goals is that each student who enrolls at the DAEP, “Leaves BETTER than they came!”
