Education/Curriculum

All areas of Long ELC’s environment encourage hands-on learning and development of relationships within our school family. The instructional staff provide and support daily engaging learning experiences for children in all developmental areas, including approaches to learning, social and emotional, language, literacy, math, science, perceptual motor and physical development. Students’ families are vital in planning and contributing to children’s growth and value to their community. Our plans for curriculum, school environment, and engagement of families in their children’s school readiness goals are based on the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Federal Head Start Program Performance Standards, and the Texas Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines. Ongoing child screening and assessment measures child progress, gives vital information to support children’s individual needs and helps guide instruction. All moments in the day become an opportunity for adults to promote language and deepen children’s thought processes, using a variety of strategies. This includes but is not limited to analysis and reasoning, creating, frequent back and forth conversational exchanges, openended questions, and encouragement. Our goal is to create relevant learning experiences that relate to children’s lives.
