Abilene ISD has taken center stage in Texas theatre education, earning multiple honors from the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETA). For the second year, AISD was recognized as an Outstanding District in TxETA’s prestigious Theatre Awards of Distinction program. Additionally, Craig Middle School earned recognition as an Exemplary Campus, and Cooper High School was named an Outstanding Campus.

These awards celebrate the outstanding dedication and talent within our theatre programs. Students, educators, and community supporters all played a role in earning this recognition. AISD qualified not only for accomplishments on stage, but also for ways AISD schools champion the arts, make the most of theatre resources, fosters diversity, and inspires students to engage with every aspect of theatre.

“We are incredibly proud of Craig Middle School, Cooper High School, and all Abilene ISD theatre programs for receiving these prestigious statewide distinctions,” AISD Executive Director of Fine Arts Clay Johnson said. “This remarkable achievement highlights the creativity, dedication, and excellence of our students and directors. Our theatre educators across the district are truly making a lasting impact on students’ lives, fostering confidence, collaboration, and a lifelong love for the stage.”
