5 Advance to National Future Educators Conference

TAFE Top Finishers Five AISD students are headed to Arizona this summer after finishing among the top participants at the Texas Association of Future Educators state conference Feb. 16-19 in Arlington.

Israel Yolou, Jalen Wright and Noah Watson of AHS, and Rebecca Desrochers and Hannah Tollison of Cooper will compete this June in Phoenix against other national qualifiers.

The five AISD representatives finished in the top five in their respective events at the Texas conference. More than 1,700 students from across the state competed at the TAFE Teach Tomorrow Summit held at the University of Texas at Arlington and the Arlington Convention Center.

TAFE is a student organization designed to encourage students to learn about careers in education and assists them in exploring the teaching profession while promoting character, service and leadership skills. The national affiliate for TAFE is named Educators Rising.

Yolou, Wright and Watson earned their trip to nationals by placing in the top five in Impromptu Lesson Planning. Desrochers was a top-five finisher in the Exploring Non-Core Careers event, and Tollison qualified in Children’s Literature K-3.

Sponsors for the group are Holly Woodard of AHS and Cheryl Barber of CHS.
