Second Grade

We are excited that your second grader will be joining us this year!  We look forward to being partners with you this year to make second grade a wonderful experience for your child.

Stafford’s second graders work hard to build on the skills they learned in first grade to ensure they’re prepared for third grade. The students strive to become independent readers while learning about an author’s purpose for writing and different book genres. They learn about the writing process and become authors by writing their own fiction and nonfiction books! In Math, the students learn basic math facts, money, fractions, geometry, measurement, and begin multiplication and division!  They get to learn about different communities, cultures, and people in Social Studies. In Science, they investigate our world through observation, inquiry, and research just like real scientists! Second grade is a BLAST!!
